I am at GLPS camp. In one of the projects for the writing class, we had to write a photo essay. I like taking photos, so I think it would be fun and memorable. Let it begin!
#Day 1 {August 7th, 2013} (Wednesday)
I took this picture in front of the Korean Minjok Leadership Academy in Wonju. This is the Minjok Building. I had a lot of fun this day because it was the start of the photo essay and we got to go out in the middle of the class and take pictures. I was with Rosa, Ji Hae and most of my classmates. I chose this picture for my photo essay because KMLA is the only school that is built with Han Ok, which is a type of Korean traditional house. When I first saw this building, I thought it was a museum because I had never though of a school that would ever look like this. It was really unique and that is why I wanted to post it on my photo essay. #Day 2 {August 8th, 2013} (Thursday) Today was my roommate Ga Won(Catherine)'s birthday. So we had my other roommates keeping her in the cafeteria longer at dinner time so that this cake could be a surprise. We were celebrating her birthday with all of our roommates. We were taking a lot of pictures and it was really fun. The supplies were Choco Pie, White Chocolate Cracker, Potato Chips, Chocolate covered Cracker and Mentos. Catherine was smiling the whole time so I think she was surprised and happy. It was really interesting that we could actually make it because when we first though of the idea of opening a birthday party for her, I didn't think we would make that happen, but after actually doing it I felt proud and happy that we had an opportunity to do this kind of thing. #Day 3 {August 9th, 2013} (Friday) I found out something interesting today. When I was walking back to our dorm to eat lunch with my friends, I saw this and found it really interesting because in our school in Gang Neung, it has a 'right side only policy' so we have to walk on the right side of the hallway. But this picture is saying that KMLA has a 'left side only policy'. I realize that it was because on the right side, there was an archery place, but I was really surprised that there could be a place that encourage us to walk on the right side. I am having a hard time keeping this rule because my teacher in our school always tells us to walk on the right side of the hallway. #Day 4 {August 10th, 2013} (Saturday)
Today was Saturday so we had to clean our rooms. I had to clean the floor and clean my friends desks. My roommates don't like cleaning so we talked and ate snacks most of the time. We had a lot of snacks because two of my friends got their parents to send us a lot of snacks. The PAs are really strict on cleaning because they said that crumbs can attract bugs or something. When we first cleaned our rooms, we really had a hard time because we didn't have the cleaning tools. We had to clean with our hands again but I kind of got used to it. I was having fun because we didn't really have much to do so we mostly played. I like organizing things so it was really fun organizing the desks. I was also kind of sad because this would be the last cleaning in GLPS.
#Day 5 {August 11th, 2013} (Sunday)
Today when we were doing our Club Activities, Su Yeon (Bella) who is one of our roommates went out with her familly. We watched 'Happy Feet' for my movie CA. When we came back, Bella was waiting for us in the front of the dorm building with snacks. We saw her familly and they looked really kind and nice. She had two big bags of snacks in our dorm. We ran to her as soon as we heard that she had snacks so I think she was kind of mad at us for only thinking about the snacks. As soon as we got back to the dorm, we started taking out the things in the shopping bag. The first thing we took out was Margaret and Jelly. Bella was really kind and didn't mind to share all of the snacks with us. I had a lot of fun today because as we ate most of her snacks at night, we were laughing so hard when we were talking about our funniest experiment in our lives. My roommates all had a very funny experience especially Chan Song (Clara). We ate more than half of her snacks in one day. I think this day will also be memorable because we were having so much fun.
Day 6 {August 12th, 2013} (Monday)
It was really sunny today. This picture is a shadow of me and I was on the hill to move to my next class which was Mr. Cox's class. I was holding a lot of things like a jacket because I didn't know it would be this hot today. Actually it was kind of cold when I first woke up today. I was really tired from all the cleaning I did yesterday and also because it was Monday. It was the beginning of the weekdays which meant the beginning of studying. It was only ten o'clock when I took this picture so it was burning hot when I was climbing the hill to get lunch. Today was mostly tiring because I had to go up and down the hills to get to classes. Also, today was a very difficult day to get stressed out so that was also kind of tiring. #Day 7 {August 13th, 2013} (Tuesday) I took this picture on the way to Mr. Cox's class. Even though it was eight in the morning, it was really sunny. It was also a windy day so it didn't really feel like it was that hot. This is the C-building. This picture is memorable because this building was also built as Han Ok. There are lots of trees and grass here so I think KMLA is pro-environment. I was with Ji Hae. I like this building because it has air conditioners, drinking fountains and vending machines. I love the vending machine because it has Cocopalm which is really good! We have a lot of studying today so we have to go outside a lot, but I kind of got used to going up and down the hill. Yesterday's dinner was Ramen so I was really excited but it wasn't that good. I like the idea of giving Ramen for dinner though. I am wondering what's going to be for dinner today. It was fun to take pictures everyday and writing about it. Writing a photo essay would be really helpful on remembering what I did that day so I would recommend writing photo essays for people that want to remember their everyday life.
Parents are always encouraging us to find a dream for yourself. Well my dream is becoming a doctor. I have many reasons why I want to be a doctor. First is because in TED, I saw how poor people in Africa can't even drink clean water. When I was watching TED, I though about the people that can't afford to go to the hospital so when I become a doctor, I also want to help the poor people.
Well to tell the truth, a part of my dream is at the money that I might be able to get when I become a doctor. But even before I heard that doctor is one of the career that earns the most money. This is only a part though. I also want to be a doctor because I like to explain things specifically. I know that to be a doctor, I would have to be very smart and have certain things that is needed to be a doctor. So I am going to try from now on and I might be able to achieve my goal!!
Once upon a time there were two animals fighting about the value of themselves. There was a snail and a lion. The snail's opinion was that it was smaller which made it easier to hide and it said that it was smarter so even though it couldn't help the world with its strength, it said it had the knowledge to save the world if it's needed. Then the lion rebutted with his own opinion. He said that he was stronger and could be fast at doing things. With his strength, he said that he could do things like pushing a wagon for humans. But by looking at their lives, it was easy to see that the snail was wise and patient. But on the other hand, the lion was impatient, a mischief maker, and couldn't judge very well when it got mad. After a lot of talks about who has a better value of living, the snail insisted that they should have a competition on catching fish. They said that it would only count as a point if they catch the fish alive. They decided to meet at dawn and end the competition when the sun goes down. Finally, the time came for them to see who really has the value of living. They divided the sea into two sides and the snail went to the left side and the lion went to the right side. On the right side where the lion was, the lion went into the water without any planing. He jumped into the seas, but because of his weight, he could barely help himself not sink. It took him about three hours to catch a fish because he was catching every fish by hand and he couldn't hold his breath very well. It spent most of the time playing bad jokes on them like holding them up in the air for a long time so that they couldn't swim away. Well if you see the left side, the snail was working pretty well. The snail was planing what he was going to do. It planned to make a leaf boat and use a stick and a spider web for a paddle and a net. It tangled 15 spider webs together to make a stronger net. With his planning, he could easily catch 10 fish in three hours.
After I watched the movie The Wizard of Oz, I felt that the movie was too formulaic because it was too easy to predict what the ending was going to be. Usually, the main character (Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin man, and the Cowardly Lion) wins or over comes the hardships and help each other. For example, when Dorothy first saw her friends, she was trying to help so they went to the Wizard of Oz together. And also they got what each of them needed by over coming the hardships they had on the way to the Wizard. But even though it was too formulaic, I liked the movie because it gave us lessons like the one that you should believe in yourself and be brave. The genre of the movie was classical fantasy and it was very adventurous. It first took place in Kansas and it was colored black and white to express the poverty of Kansas. Then she wanted to run away from her house because she was mad at her aunt for letting her teacher take Toto. Then because of a tornado, Dorothy arrives to a place where she thinks is "over the rainbow". When Dorothy arrives over the rainbow, the background becomes colored to represent happiness and the joy of the land. When Dorothy's house arrived over the rainbow, her house crushed The Witch of the East who was very mean to the Munchkins (The citizens of the land where Dorothy first arrived). The Munchkins were very happy when The Witch of the East got assasinated by Dorothy's house. The Which of the East had Ruby shoes (said to be silver in the books) that was magic and because Dorothy helped her get crushed, she got the shoes. Then the Witch of the West who was also wicked as her sister, started following Dorothy to get the shoes. On the way to The Wizard of Oz, she met many friends like Tin Man, Scarecrow, and The Cowardly Lion. All of her friend needed something that they though they didn't have, but what they actually had. At last, when they found The Wizard of Oz and eventually found out that he was just a ordinary person. Even though The Wizard of Oz promised to go to Kansas with Dorothy, he couldn't because the air balloon flied away when Dorothy went to catch Toto. Then the Wizard Of the South (who was the only good wizard on the land) came and taught Dorothy how to use her shoes to go back home. Overall, I liked the moviebecause the movie had new formation that I have never seen before.
Many people have goals. What are your goals? Well my goals are taking two pictures everyday, being respectful to adults, and writing more than a 100 line novel.
My first goal is to take at least two pictures everyday. I can accomplish this goal by bringingmy camera every where I go and checking if I have gotten two photos. This goal would help me remember what I did the day the picture was taken.
Second thing that I set as my goal is to be respectful to adults. I can be respectful to adults by being polite when I meet them, or even if t is not adults, I should respect them. Then I should say 'Thank you' when I get help from adults and everybody that I get help from. This will help being respectful to adults.
Finally, I planned to write more than a 100 line novel. I can measure this by looking at the lines that I wrote. I can accomplish this goal by reading many good novels because it would help me get ideas of how the formations are and the ways to write novels. I would write at least five lines a day to write 100 line novel in 30 days. This goal would help me get better at writing and it will be fun because it can be about anything and I will be writing about the things I am interested in.
I really want to accomplish these goals in 30 days and keep the promises I made to myself on keeping the goals and trying as hard as I can to not renounce my goals.
